The Cancun International Airport is moving forward with the expansion of its biometric e-gates, aiming to streamline the entry process for international travelers while strengthening security measures.

In Cancún, Governor Mara Lezama announced this initiative, which is being implemented in coordination with the National Institute of Migration. The goal is to provide a faster and more modern arrival experience for visitors.

“We are making immigration control systems more agile and modern,” she stated (translated from Spanish).

As part of the upgrade, Terminal 4 will expand its e-gates from four to 20, allowing travelers to complete their immigration process in an automated and secure manner.

Currently, 10 automated checkpoints are already in operation, with plans to reach 20 in the near future. Meanwhile, Terminal 3, which has 16 e-gates, will also transition to the updated system with a total of 20 automated filters.

Additionally, traditional inspection counters will increase from 48 to 54, enhancing the airport’s capacity to manage the high volume of incoming tourists.

On the security side, authorities will reinforce closed-circuit surveillance systems and implement stricter oversight in secondary inspection procedures to ensure transparency and efficiency.
“Quintana Roo es la puerta de México al mundo. Por eso seguimos trabajando todos los días para que cada persona que llegue a nuestra tierra encuentre orden, seguridad y un trato digno”, expresó Lezama, quien agregó que estas acciones buscan que los viajeros sientan desde su primer paso que han llegado a la “Capital Mundial de las Vacaciones”.

We hope these improvements help streamline tourist entry and ensure more efficient and secure immigration processes.
